Bassa Via del Garda

The Bassa Via del Garda is a hiking route of rare beauty, offering an engrossing experience of the variegated landscapes of Lake Garda. It covers some 70 km, divided into five stages, which were mapped out at the end of the 1990s and wends its way through the municipalities of Salò and Limone, connecting the lake's shores with the dense network of roads and paths through the mountains inland.

When travelling the Bassa Via del Garda, hikers and excursionists have a unique opportunity to visit sites of extraordinary beauty, and of great natural or historical interest. These include Colle di San Bartolomeo, a hill above Salò, the picturesque Valle delle Cartiere in Toscolano, the old hermitage of San Valentino in Gargnano, the Park visitors centre in Prabione di Tignale, the majestic Sanctuary of Montecastello and the spectacular canyon excavated by the Brasa river in Tremosine, and on to the quiet Valle del Singol which continues as far as Limone.

The route is open all year round, but particularly ideal in the spring and autumn months, when the mild climate and lower tourist numbers make it easier to fully enjoy the natural beauty and tranquillity of the route. Every April, the Bassa Via del Garda becomes the setting for a trail running race of the highest technical level, attracting runners from all over Europe. This race offers competitors the opportunity to face the challenge of a route through a wide range of terrains, from rolling hills to imposing mountains, deep canyons and rock walls with steep drops over the lake, creating an intense race that is also visually astounding.

The Bassa Via del Garda is not just a route, it is an absolute panoramic adventure that gives every visitor the chance to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views and a deep sense of the nature and history of this magnificent zone.
